Mata Ni Pachedi

Mata ni Pachedi is a 200-year-old textile craft form used by the nomadic Vaghari community to create temporary shrines for the Mother Goddess. The traditional maroon, sourced from alizarin, is associated with the color of Mother Earth and believed to possess healing powers. Black, extracted from oxidized metal, repels malevolent spirits and intensifies spiritual energy. white represents purity and contact with ancestral spirits. Such paintings are on display at the Lalabhai Dalpatbhai Museum and Calico Museum in Ahmedabad and Baroda Museum and Art Gallery in Vadodara.
